Artist Statement
Growing up in the 21st century can be tough. Time feels as if it has been passing so quickly and I often miss my childhood. When we are young we commonly want to try new things, especially the things that older people around us are doing. In the photographs, we can see a young boy try to seriously execute adult tasks and we can then see him just having fun with it. While growing up we often feel compelled to grow up quickly, and as I am growing up I am realizing the importance of taking advantage of your youth. As I get older I feel that there are more boundaries of what I can and cannot do, but it is important we do not take anything too seriously and just have fun. Additionally, the activities he is doing are not limited to any gender as I wanted to push the boundaries of gender roles. So, the overall message of these images is to have fun while you can and do not take things too seriously. Theres no rush to growing up!
